Boating Course
These courses are designed to give you some basic knowledge of
safe boating. They are not an all inclusive as you will see. They
are designed by boaters for boaters to help us all be more aware
and safe on the water. In the process you will learn some useful
hintsand applications to make your boating experience more
enjoyable.
It will
give you the basic knowledge that you need to start safe boating.
It does not give you a license but a certificate that will fulfill
the requirement of having to take a safe boating course by the
year 2000.
There will be a 50 point test at the end of the course that you
should have no trouble in passing. By doing the small amount of
homework every week and mostly paying attention in class you will
be able to pass the course easily and receive your certificate.
Upon successful completion of this course you will be
interviewed by one of the squadron members and you will be invited
to become a member of the squadron. You will see them during the
course from time to time. If you ever have any questions about
anything please feel free to ask any of the members at any time or
use the names and numbers at the bottom of your course sheet. We
are a fraternal organization that has been around almost from the
turn of the century, (although most of us have not been members
quite that long there is allot of boating experience in the
membership). There are chapters or "squadrons" nearly all over the
world.
The Power Squadron is devoted to its mission of safe boating
through education. There are many levels of educational attainment
in the Power Squadron and throughout the course you will hear and
see some if not all of the other courses we provide. We have
regularly scheduled group, squadron, district, and national
meetings. We have taken "field trips" to locks and other places of
interest and plan cruises on all of the waters around at various
times throughout the year. You can choose to participate at almost
any level. There is something for everyone.
